PANAJI: The Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat have congratulated Leon Mendonca from Goa for becoming India’s 67th chess Grandmaster.
14-year-old Leon Mendonca has become India’s 67th chess Grandmaster by winning the third and final norm at a tournament in Italy. Mendonca, who achieved the feat at 14 years, 9 months and 17 days, is the second GM from the coastal state.
“A proud moment for all of us as young Leon Mendonca from Goa becomes India’s 67th chess Grandmaster. Leon is also the second GM from Goa. Many congratulations to Leon and best wishes to him in all his future endeavours.” Chief Minister Sawant tweeted.
“Congratulations to Master Leon Mendonca who is now India’s 67th Chess Grandmaster. Goa is proud of you. Kudos to his Coach & Parents for the hardwork and encouragement. My best wishes to his career. I am confident, Leon will bring many more laurels.” Kamat tweeted.
